WIP Week: Promethium Reactorum XXI

The promethium pipe works complex sits within a great scar in the land, a product of the machinations of the Mechanicum upon settling the planet.

The earth tone rubble that makes up the pipework's surroundings was first dry brushed with a rough layer of Citadel Graveyard Earth followed by Citadel Kislev Flesh. After the initial colors were on, the airbrush was used to add various earth tones in random patterns, with darker shades concentrated near the walkways and reactors.

In the image below, you can see the rich texture made by the initial mud mixture used to texture the board. Once the texture is set, and small debris is added, a simple paint scheme really pops owing to all of the details worked into the earth. Larger features are heavily surrounded by debris to make sure they look equally weathered and aged.

The small bricks made from old plastic sprues really make it clear how the debris has settled over long periods of time. Concentrating the debris near the walls gives the sense that it has been pushed over the edge during the Mechanicum's housekeeping operations.

Once the base coats of paint are down, additional dry brushing is used all over to pick out details. The rubble and earth benefit a great deal from the last highlight of Kislev Flesh.

Now that the base colors are down on all 6 board sections, I need to take a painting break to build some more area terrain to place on the board. More soon!
