Outside the main gate of the refinery, two small bastions of a humble temple of the Adeptus Astartes flanks the main passage into the refinery grounds. Adorned in the black and red of the First Legion, this small temple serves as the last line of defense against assaults on the refinery gate.
The black buildings were first airbrushed in neutral gray ink (aerocolor) with scarlet ink in the red areas. After dry brushing the edges with steel color metallic, the entire building was washed in acrylic black wash. After drying, the red areas were dry brushed with citadel red paints. The golden doors were dry brushed using citadel gold paint and then washed in black. These basic colors form the foundation, and details will be added soon.
The crane was first airbrushed using a dark red ink (red madder dark, aerocolor), then highlighted in steel colored acrylic. After washing the entire model in black wash, I highlighted with the same steel colored metallic, and then dry brushed some of the details using citadel Brass Scorpion. Again, this basic color scheme will be revisited once I get all of the tiles down with the base coat of color.
From the air, you can see the shadows that were airbrushed near the building and small features using a mix of black and burnt umber inks. The entire concrete area was washed using the black wash, but the excess was wiped and dabbed before being allowed to dry, leaving ink in the cracks and small details. Some thin yellow lines were stenciled using masking tape to lay out some more detail on the concrete. These will be modified and weathered heavily later, since they served as a basic test of stenciling.
