WIP Week: Promethium Reactorum XI

For the second set of Promethium Reactorum tiles, I wanted to make the landscape flat and harsh, but make the board have some space to add terrain pieces that can be moved around. I decided to mimic the look of the Kill Team illustrated board in the mechanicum wasteland areas, surrounded by the urban streets and mountains of the other 6 feet of board. You may notice lots of sand and grit, but I also mixed in carved plastic components and even found a new way to make realistic bricks: I first cut up all the plastic sprues that have been sitting around for years into small pieces. I then used an old Ninja blender (I had just bought a replacement) with a small smoothie cup to shred and chip the bricks making them much more worn and looking quite realistic. I added in other small components as well from old citadel cities of death kits. Hero Quest Finally Arrives!

For many of us, Hero Quest was the beginning of our hobby addiction. After many, many years, Hasbro and Avalon Hill Games has finally released an updated version of the classic. I just got my hands on my new copy, and I'm really impressed! The Dragon and gargoyle (the original Bloodthirster!) are very impressive models. The plastic is kind of soft, but seems to be very durable. I'm not sure how it will take paint, but I suspect it will be quite fine. The game and all the extras arrive assembled and in special packaging. I actually was very happy to not have to assemble the models. I can get right to painting. Lots of new female characters that weren't in the original. The models and character cards look fantastic. I'm again very impressed with the production value. The best part of all! I think the furniture holds a special spot in the heart of anyone who remembers the original, and the new upgraded furniture really improves on it. The original had plastic features

Update 4: Mechanicum Assassin of the Ordo Hypotheosis

Assassin! The Mechanicum Assassin is coming along nicely. I managed to work a bit on the cape, using the stippling technique to give some texture. Over the rest of the model, I've finished most of the base colors and some of the shadows using a series of careful washes. Everything still needs detailed highlights, especially the hair. The metal is also looking good, with lots of variation in different areas. The cape looks quite nice against the metal of the backpack, and I'm pretty happy with it. I also put together a scenic base that I will mount the mini to once it is mostly done. I plan to paint the base separately, and then do the finishing touches with the base attached to the model. I think it will work (?). More soon!
